AFM participates in the development of the mineralogy by the discovery and the collaboration in the study of the new species names.

From 1984, foundation year, the AFM participated on more than half of the species which the first world decovery takes place in France. The type-specimens are deposed in the public collections.

The studies are made in relation with the professionnal researchers in mineralogy.
